Birthday Celebrations with friends....

I got to know Alice when IBM recommended her catering company for an event. That must have been way back in the 90s and we've been friends ever since. She is such a wonderful, bubbly lady, you can't help it but be friends with her. Through her, I got to know her son, Nick who is a chef. I became even closer to them when I started taking baking classes with Nick at their home.

Last Saturday (26 June 2010), Alice invited me to celebrate with them, her hubby's, Ernest's 70th birthday.  The man doesn't look it !  He he.  Below a pic of dear Alice at one of Nick's baking class that I attended. Pic of glam Alice that night is not to be, that's when my camera decided that it does not have enough memory!

Alice Bain in her element - the kitchen. She's always there to make sure that the students are well fed during lessons !

Ernest admiring his 70th birthday cake, loving done for him by his chef son, Nicholas.

Ernest's cake and cuppies !

After the birthday party, went home to decorate another birthday cake for Siti. For her teenage daughters, Nadia and Natrah. Natrah's birthday fell on 27 June, while Nadia's was a week before. She also got me to bake vanilla cuppies for the girls, and since cream cheese is her fav, the frosting was of course, cream cheese. The cake was Carrot cake with cream cheese frosting. Alia did the surfacing, I did the decorating on the cake. I need to go for more cake decorating classes !

Below are proof pics of the cake and baby pink/blue cuppies I made for them... The most important thing, they were happy with results and enjoyed eating the cake and cupcakes.

On Friday (25/06/2010), I baked another batch of cupcakes for Farah Hani again. This time its a gift for a pair of bride and groom. Requested for pink color. See below, I just love that pink shade. I mixed christmas red food coloring, bits of purple and food whitener to get it... I was told that the 'pegantin' eat with gusto after the celebration winded down.... good to know ! ;D

Since there seems to be quite a bit of cakes and cupcake postings..
plus I'm wishing (and pray, insya'allah with God's blessings) for more of such postings,
I've updated this blog with a cup of coffee background.
Coffee (or tea for that matter) goes so well with cakes,
 if I may say so...

Updates

We had a great time meeting up with a few of us BFFs... at Ina's daughter's wedding.  Jema actually took the trouble to wait for us.  She came with her Ba, all the way from Temerloh and goes back after the kenduri. Its always fun to meet up with old friends, and all of us would be 19 again.  Too bad we were not able to continue at Syim's place, which disappointed Syim cause she was looking forward to it, we all did too but just too bad !

My youngest, Aina went off to Miri/Mulu for a camping/climbing trip this time.  Coming back tonite, I'm sure she had a good time there. Mulu is always fantastic. Aina worked for a month or so, at Secret Recipe so that she gets to go for this trip, her pay from that job, paid for the orginal cost of the trip. Mum & Dad gave her some pocket money and also added the extra which she had to pay, cause they couldn't get a sponsor or a sponsor backed out last minute of something like that. Its good when a club has active ppl to run their programs....

One of our very very close family friend is very sick, the big C.  We didn't even know she had it like some 6 years ago, they kept it quite. Now she had a relapse, 2nd relapse in fact. But this time, it has spread to her liver and bones.  Its so sad to see her.  Her mum, our fav aunty, just passed away last year.  We think, she had the relapse bcause she was so sad & depressed by her mum's passing.  But looking at her daughters who were at the hospital when we visited, I felt so sad. She's going to miss a lot.  And them too, am thinking of them, without their mum later on their big day, when they marries, when they have children....

Life seems so unfair sometimes.......

BFF

Last weekend was great. I get to meet up with 2 friends whom I've not met since we left college !  30 years ago and both of them look good !  Ha ha ha.  that's good to know right ?  Anyway, Sherry and Normah, welcome back to our circle of friends.

On Sunday, we had a group gathering at PJ Hilton but there were only Nana, Rossi, Wan and me, the KL regulars plus Normah whom we're meeting for the first time since college, except for Wan who went for her son's wedding last year.  Syim, Lathie, Ina and Dilla, couldn't make it. The lunch was originally planned for Sherry but Sherry chickened out !  Ho ho ho.... When you've not met for so long, you do have lots and lots of hang-ups about meeting them, I know.  If Sherry is reading this, don't take heart okay, and again don't worry about meeting all of us, we are NOT going to judge you in anyway.  I somehow managed to successfully meet up with Sherry the day before. We met for a couple of hours for tea and toast at the Tropicana City - she was staying for the night at cousin's next door. Okay, okay, so she got grilled by me quite a bit la.  Well...what to do? That's what happens when you meet up with a 'kaypochi' !

Next meet, insya'allah, at Ina's daughter's wedding on 20th March 2010.  I hope to meet with Jema again then, now if Sherry can join, it will be great. The Plan is to continue at Syim's place after the wedding makan....

This is Sherry. I hope she laughing because she's happy to see me.

Normah or Norman as we used to call her at college because her name was mispelt on her student ID, actually recalled being bullied by Wan, Nana and me !!!  She said she never forgot that... I think she is still trumatised by it !  Poor Normah.... I hope she went home with good memories last Sunday and we didn't once bullied her that day !  He he he really........
